Sudden Fiction Three



She took the cellophane wrap off the basket of fruit and placed it by her desk. Nobody touched it. There were rumors of brownies in the kitchenette.

Six hours later, a banana had been taken. Everything else in the fruit basket remained untouched.

Twelve hours later, a cleaning person took a granny smith apple from the basket. It appeared to still have some firmness.

The next morning, she returned to her desk. Without so much as examining the basket, she threw it in the large garbage bin in the kitchenette.

So much for fruit.
