THE GREAT GADFLY:

Gods Eye For The Mud Pie

I've decided that one of my goals in life is to blow up a car while listening to Donna Summer's "I Feel Love". They did this on Alias last night, and it just looked like the perfect thing to do on a Saturday night. Watching a bewigged Jennifer Garner make a car go boom before launching into requisite head-kicking action, all to the strains of a jacked-up Giorgio Moroder soundtrack, was better than any porn I've ever seen.

Speaking of porn, Caffeine Free Diet Coke is the opposite of it. Giving up caffeine is a drag, though as an exercise/experiment in restraint, it's strangely gratifying. Still - as much as I don't miss the feeling of having eyes made of sandpaper scraping around in my throbbing skull, there is nothing particularly sexy about drinking a can of carbonated sugarwater (only it isn't even sugarwater because there is no sugar in it).

I'm cheating a little. I'm drinking lots of chai tea lately. Ooopsies.

You know, I hope Outkast never decides to start a cult, or else I'm going to be standing on a street corner one day dressed a in hot pink velvet sarong, selling stink sticks to scowling old ladies and chanting "stank you very much!" I adore "The Love Below/Speakerboxxx". It's troubling how much I love it. Albums shouldn't be this good. Bring on the backlash, fast - I need deprogramming. Meanwhile, unless you're just stupid or don't like anything nice, you really have no excuse not to stop what you're doing right this second and pick up this album. Like, NOW.

Not so big into the new Peaches album - it's fun, it's trashy, and it's got Iggy Pop on it, trading bon mots with Peaches like he did with Debbie Harry on that Cole Porter song they did back in the day on "Red Hot + Blue". Still, it's way too short and it sounds like b-sides from "Teaches of Peaches" and there's not much going on that wasn't done better on her last album. But if you just like her bad reputation and don't give a shit, hey, it's more stoopid songs about nether regions, so eat up.

Rufus Wainwright's new album "Want One" is nice, though it's a bit less distinct than his last album. Some bands you love for the people, some bands you love for a specific album. I'm beginning to think I'm more into "Poses" than I am into Rufus W. in general. This one is a nice, mellow listen - not sure what else to say. It's kinda like picking apart a Sade album...whaddaya say about it that hasn't already been said? I'm still waiting for him to duet with Chaka Khan.

Then again, EVERYONE should duet with Chaka Khan.

I just gulped down a big mouthful of undercooked thai noodles. It was like eating a wad of shoelaces. Maybe I'll poop out a nice potholder or a dreamcatcher - or perhaps a pretty macrame owl with corn bits for eyes.
