THE GREAT GADFLY:

Sudden Fiction Eleven

It happened so quickly, he had no idea what had happened until the little girl's laughter entered his head, rolled through his brain, and oozed out the other side of his skull.

He was walking, then the world opened up and started to suck him in. The blackness of unconsciousness swirled with a blurred tapestry of dizzy surroundings. He was in shock. A little girl was laughing. Laughing at him.

The spinning slowed; clarity kissed him tentatively on the forehead. He saw bright pink in front of him. Pink coat. Girl. Girl standing in front of him. Pointing. Laughing.

She said the following words:

"You fell on your butt, mister."
